Shawnee Mountain Ski Area
Shawnee Mountain is a PA ski resort, but its location near New York City and the New Jersey border means than many skiers here are from outside the Keystone State. They come for a great family-friendly ski resort, with a slew of intermediate and beginner slops and some welcoming terrain features.
Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is not the best Poconos ski resort for expert skiers, but a few of the runs are steep enough to justify some NASTAR ski races, and make for quick short runs when there are no races. The steepest runs are the lift shots below Arrowhead chair and the high-speed Tomahawk lift. Also look for the short Renegade run to the left of the Lookout lift.

Intermediates will find more for them at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, and beginners especially like to ski Shawnee Mountain. For a nice long blue, head up the Bushkill lift and head skiers right on Bennekill. The Bushkill lift runs above and serves the long Bushkill terrain park, a fairly gentle slope with features for all freestyle abilities. Incubator terrain park is easier still: a good place for beginners.
Multiple blue and green runs come off the high-speed Tomahawk quad, which reaches the top of Shawnee Mountain in just three minutes. Go skiers right off the top for the longest winding runs.
Shawnee Mountain Ski Area has more of a family atmosphere than some other ski resorts in PA, making it a great place for kids and parents. There is a learning area near the base with a magic carpet and a double chair serving a learning slope. Families can also ski Shawnee Mountain at night—most of the mountain is illuminated—and enjoy the easy yet fun snowtubing park.
